Create gap in dimension lines

With the section callout tool, we have the ability to create a gap in the line between the wing and the tail. It would be amazing if we could get that same functionality to create a gap in dimension lines (leaders, extension lines, etc). Very frequently, those dimension extension lines cross each other and we need to do manual cleanup. Currently, we either have to use a masking element, or break the extension line and loose association. Being able to create gaps in those dimension lines would let us clearn up dimensioning much more efficiently.

    Hi Frieder,

I am likely being obtuse here, but we already have the ability to create a gap in the line of a section callout annotation. Can the same type of element (code) be used for those dimension extension lines? If the answer is no, then perhaps you can shift your focus from trying to give us exactly what we want (ability to create gap) to making a better workaround for us to accomplish the same thing. Ideally, we would have a filled shape and/or thick line that is visible to us (so we can see where they are at at all times), masks out a portion of the dimension line, does not plot, and can be associated/locked relative to the dimension element so that if that element moves, the masking shape moves with it.

    Hi Ian,

yeah you're right. We definitely think its valid and apricate the feedback, we don't have a viable solution at this time due to technical reasons, due to technical reasons. But we will consider this for future development if the platform architecture changes.

Bentley. why is this set to 'Will not implement'? its a useful option for when we have a large area that has been cut to fit a sheet file.

This is a situation that we run into on pretty much every project/plan set, and has been requested by many users for many years. It is very disappointing to hear that a Bentley will not be continuing to look for a solution to this, or at the very least a better work around/supplemental tool.

Thanks for you requested idea and feedback. We took some time to investigate this request and unfortunately, came to the conclusion that we will currently not consider this enhancement. One of the biggest reasons are technical limitations & challenges in MicroStation and underlying platform, that would lead to undesirable changes in other parts of the drawing production workflow due to it’s complexity. Thanks for your understanding

It would make it so much easier than dropping the dimension and manually changing everything.

this was needed 10 years ago, so yes please....

Not sure why this is still under "needs review." This is very much needed and very surprising that it hasn't been done yet.

actually there it should be possible to set some criteria to automatically create a gap. Like all horizontal dim lines break the verticals. Or the other way round(?) Even to flip the breaking scheme if need be, right? Or do you prefer the manual way over such automatism?

    Yes, please!
