Diving into the View Attributes menu takes three clicks to turn off the background map. Adding a map icon to the bar would allow users to toggle the map on and off quickly. A bonus feature would be to click and hold the map icon, allowing you to change the transparency.
Does the Bing icon toggle the map on and off, or do you have to go into the pulldown to turn the map on and off?

We added the Bing Maps icon in the view toolbar in MicroStation 2023 for the exact same reasons as mentioned in your ideas. ( see attached screen shot ) .
