Many users regularly use the Mesh creation tools like Mesh from Element to convert elements like Shapes, Solids, etc. to mesh objects or Convert to Solid to do this with solids.
Especially for BIM and Civil modeling workflows, one challenge is when objects have Item Types attached and these conversion tools are used all this data is lost in the new objects. An example workflow is BIM delivery of pavement markings - these start out as linestrings (from a Civil Product for eample) with 3d linestyles, the linestyles get dropped to shape elements and converted to Meshes. The original Item types that were located on the linestrings, detailing the type and lane location is long gone once this ends as a Mesh object for BIM delivery.
Incorporating this into the Mesh manipulation tools (ie. Stitch into Mesh, Split Mesh, Unite, etc.) would also offer some very good Item Type productivity functionality that users in the BIM delivery space need.
Just like the standard "Keep Original" tick box, it would be good to have a standard Item Types option with "Keep First" or "Keep Last". This would allow the user to identify which of the "child" elements was retained on transformation. In the splitting tools, simply propagating the parent Item Types would suffice.
Hi Mark,
Can you tell us what would you like to see happen in this example?
