When working with a coordinate system, all objects "know" where they are located (location, angle...). So, why is it in Microstation still necessary to tell where to place an object when using copy&paste from one dgn to another? Currently, I need to do several steps to have the same result (reference file, copy...). It would save a lot of time, just having same result in 2 steps with copy and paste.
I agree that improvement can be made for sure! In competitor product there is the option "Paste - same place" (where the pasted objects will be at the same XYZ from the file origin as in the source file) or "Paste - Aligned to view". I think MS can improve with some options:
Default paste would remain the same => User must indicate
"Paste - Aligned with model origin"
"Paste - Aligned with ACS"
"Paste - Aligned with GCS" => Only if source and destination file use the same GCS definition of course
Similarly a Copy with Basepoint option would be handy as well. I read somewhere that using a Tentative after selection should do that when using Ctrl+C but it doesn't work for me (U16).
