Hi Microstation users,
In a 3 D Model I want to move elements on the z-axis to real coordinates by using the tool "Set Element Elevation".
By this way I can work faster and with less risk for errors as by the traditional way to use the move command on the front wiev.
But there is a problem in CE, in the way how this tool works....
In fact, it works different then in V8i.
Where in V8i, when using this tool, the element is moved about the entered elevation value, without changing the element in his shape (works similar to the move tool), in CE an element is not moved but will be flattened to the entered elevation value.
That means, when using this tool in CE on a 3d line or shape, it will be flattened to a 2d element !!
You can read my post in the community here:
https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/f/microstation-forum/215084/i-can-t-handle-the-elevation-property
The way how this tool work in CE may be justified in some case and for certain jobs, but it can also be dangerous to use and cause trouble.
My suggestion is, to add the choice for 2 options to this tool,
1) set elevation with "flatten"
--> is how the tool works actually in CE, where selected elements will be "flattened" to one single common z-coordinate.
2) set elevation with "maintain offsets"
With this additional option you could individually choose whether you want to "flatten" all elements to a common Z-value (option 1) or whether you want to move selected elements with their "origin" point to a specific z-value (without "flattening" the elements).
Because the "Elevation" attribute in the element property, who exist in V8i, is also missing in CE, I have reported my concerne to Bentley and they have create 2 service items:
#267856 defect report for missing elevation property in CE
#1131812 enhancement report for evaluation of adding 2 options
If you also have trouble with the "set element elevation" tool or will support the request for additional option on this tool, feel free to vote.
Many thanks
Raphaël
This is a long overdue feature imo! thank you for adding - Your post doesn't specifically touch on this, but i am hoping for similar functionality within the copy/move parallel command to control how the Z axis is handled.
