Infinite Grid at any zoom

With survey/ geospatial work we spend a lot of time at all sorts of zoom levels, from city-scale down to fractions of a millimetre.

The grid gives quick visual feedback of a sense of scale, but there are no settings which will offer that sense of scale at all zoom levels.

I'd love to see an infinite grid that will recalculate regardless of zoom level. Some other graphical applications do this, where the grid major an minor lines constantly redraw based on an increment. E.g. in the metric world major grid line increments would usually be 10x the minor.

In mapping applications, e.g. google maps, the scale bar is small, simple and recalculated with each zoom.

So, the idea is for a grid that is always shown no matter the zoom level, then a small scale bar in the corner of the zoom which shows the major grid line width.
