Thematic Display Style: Clearances

SS3's Slope and Insolation Display Styles were really really useful tools.
Slope especially should be put up for some kind of award as it does really help make floors safer and more wheelchair user friendly.
I was wondering if we could have a Display Style that paints the surfaces of closed and 3d elements based on the amount of 'clearance' the surface has.
Say I have a square duct running along a wall. The side of the duct facing the wall would be painted with a reddish hue, the face of the duct facing the structural soffit might be yellowish, and the face facing outwards may be bluish etc.
This would give a useful visual mans of checking for installation/maintainance clearances. The renders could also be incoporated into a construction seqeunce animation.
