Hi,
In Microstation, when I draw a white (colour 0) line on a model with black background it is displayed as white.
To print the line I use a sheet with a border and the model as reference. At that time the line shows black because the background is white and a white line wouldn't be visible.
That is the way it has been for all the years I design with Microstation.
In latest versions of Microstation I can use display rules to alter the appearance of elements. So I use a display rule to change all element colours to white. This is easier to work with for people who aren't familliar with the colour coding we use.
I created a display style with that rule for models and it works perfect. But when I use the display style on my sheet all my elements are gone!
Well, they are not gone, they just remain white on a white background.
I have logged this with Bentley with a Enhancement 1098820 , because I know from all those years that white lines turn black on a white background...right?
Today I got an answer from support that this works as designed... How is that possible? In all other use cases when I draw a white line on a white background I get a black line, only for display rules there is an exception and they tell me it is so by design???
Now I am forced to make two display styles with two display rules, one for models and one for sheets! Plus I have to explain to students that the system translates white lines to black on a white background, and oh yeah, this doesn't apply to display rules...
It will improve the structure of the design process by equalising the work methodology. One display style to rule them all. No more exceptions to explain to a class of students.
Kind regards.
