I would like to recommend to add functionality to MicroStation for CAD File Management.
I work for an Agency. We keep the files, we never get rid of them. The file might get outdated with a new design, but the linework is still kept. Example, the striping might get updated when we replace the All Way Stop with a Signal. We need to maintain and upgrade that file.
As we upgrade the operating system and the CAD Software, certain elements change (example Line Patters to Line Styles or This font to That font).
Having a way to update our existing CAD files with these type of changes would be greatly beneficial. I have thousands of files that need a line style upgraded (we stopped using X line style and now we use Y line style. We stoped using Arial font and starting using Font 3 (CalTrans font).
To manually upgrade thousands of files is impossible.
We have thousands of files created by consultans. Most of the time they do not follow some of our standards (example cell: Arrow LT instead of T4ARR). Manually (one file at a time vs a system that could ID which files have what cell - sometimes the files we get are not consistent within themseves) going thru and fixing / updating each item that was done incorrectly and fixing is to much of a task. One project could have 400 sheet files, which makes any correction a task we cannot address.
We have thousands of files with the old Global Origin and or no GO. Need a way to upgrade to a new file with the correct GO (withoud needing to be a programmer).
This leads to having hundres of discrepencies. When these files are merged to our Master file, all of those discrepencies are inserted into the master and hence available for users to use (which they should not but they do every single time).
Part of the CAD Management would also involve workspace(s). Upgrading the Workspace via a CAD Management stystem in MicroStation would have significan beneifts. Currently I have to drive to the Users location to make cetain changes (CAD Manager at my company does not have IT right, so I cannot remote in and make the changes).
the Standards Checker does not check combinations of Levels, Textstyles a.s.o., or not even checks it Cell-Names. And I don't know anything about checking GO=!
Hi Gilbert,
We have the Standards Checker that is used to ensure standards compliance. You can check that the line styles, levels, text styles, etc. are using the company standard. I recommend that you see the following for more information: https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v23/en/GUID-3506ED5C-67D2-2D51-F703-9851D370F3AD.html
Also please take a look at the following wiki: https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/57587/file-correction-and-audit-tools
For moving the Global Origin issue, other than manually opening the file you'd have to do it programmatically. See https://communities.bentley.com/products/programming/microstation_programming/f/microstation-programming---forum/239355/msce-c-how-to-set-global-origin/745439
