Hello Bentley, this idea is to add design grid differentiation between 2D and 3D, and give clarity for the user when working in design spaces.
For example:
2D modelling environments often use a flat grid with uniform spacing and minimal depth cues and small dynamic crosses as intersections of units in between solid lines.
3D modelling environments use perspective grids or 3D axes that help orient the user in space. These grids may include: fading lines to indicate depth distance.
The depth distance would travel with the view point or display depth to signify locality.
A dynamic arrow that scales based on the distance to the ASC Origin.
Dynamic scaling of grids that change based on perspective, angle, fade distance and gridline style.
Color-coded axes default sets to specify and identify the 2D or 3D transient grid.
A colour palette could also be provided to suggest swatches to use in combination for grid clarity. Grids would always be soft or pastel to prevent clashes with design content.
Grids can also auto-alternate if they are behind transparent objects or shapes.
These settings saved to User Preferences, UPF file.
