This is a muscle memory thing that always trips me up. When Opening a file, if you want to use a recent file or directory, a button, with text spelled out and drop down menu for each is at the bottom of the dialog window. If you want to attach a reference, buttons for recent file and directory are *not* at the bottom of the window, nor are they written out, they are at the top, "File" is a Bentley logo and "Directory" is a Microsoft file icon. If you want to raster in a file, they are at the bottom, but back to the word spelled out. If you want to make a new file, the icons are back and at the top, BUT if you have to browse for a seed file, they're back at the bottom spelled out. If you have to reattach a reference, they're back at the bottom spelled out. If you're trying to use print organizer, they're back at the top with icons. If you want to print to .pdf, they're back at the bottom spelled out.
I was pretty sure that there was a third iteration with the icons being on the bottom, but it eludes me. I was hoping for some consistency, it took me a while before I even realized what the purpose of the icons was, I would suggest that the final outcome is the buttons spelled out on the bottom of the dialog box.
