We notice that our customers that receive our i.DGN models, they are able to view the input elements that form Parametric Solids in Navisworks. The Input Elements show up as hidden, but when the "un hide all" button is clicked then the input elements become visible.
Navisworks is the most common tool used among our customers and there needs to be better integration of Parametric Solids to handle this problem. Currently, our only workaround is to convert Parametric Solids to Smart Solids. It seems redundant to use Parametric Solids if users need to eventually convert these objects to Smart Solids, losing their parametric capabilities.
Microstation should have a better handling of these input elements and keep them in the background without impacting the visible, final modeled geometry. Especially when models are exported to i.DGN format for use in other tools.
After opening a ticket with Autodesk, I learnt that this issue stems from the Bentley SDK that Autodesk is using in Navisworks. Please evaluate this issue and make changes to the Bentley SDK that will improve the ability of downstream tools to implement improved functionality for models containing Parametric Solids / Extended Elements.
