There's something for previous/next files in the project folder.

That was not for Models... just for files. Thomas asked for a tool for Models. And also for files.I had a MBE macro that switched between files long ago. Later I found Model Carousel written by https://communities.bentley.com/members/ff247d2f_2d00_7ed5_2d00_451a_2d00_b5b2_2d00_a6fc5dbbf405 to do just what https://communities.bentley.com/members/f10d2c8d_2d00_d1da_2d00_401e_2d00_9fbb_2d00_2e69e42ffa18 asked. Recently https://communities.bentley.com/members/de0601d9_2d00_ca2e_2d00_4005_2d00_a7b3_2d00_982abaee9aeb wrote something similar and nifty for files in VBA as you pointed out.But why would users have to bother writing code and maintain it through different versions, to accomplish such basic things? Bentley can probably integrate it way better with other functionality and make it work faster at the same time. Maybe add capabilities like wether or not dgnlibs, cell files, dwg files or dxf files should be ignored.
