We have a lot of bugs and anooyances with Aecosim, which users report but take time to reproduce and document. A lot of these problems are UI based.
It would be good to have a 'debug' mode for Mstn and its verticals that automatically record say the last five minutes of the user's screen and the commands executed. When a problem occurs, the user would then just trigger a 'dump' of the last five minutes, briefly describe the problem and send the dump info on to his CAD/BIM manager for review.
Whenever the problem happens again, there would of course be the option to re-send to help whoever is debugging the problem to look for similarities.
The amount of info recorded could be varied to manage the overheads. The baseline setting would be the vid (via something like BBFlashback) and whatever is recorded anyway by Mstn's message queue. Then when the problem is reproduced, the debugger would have the option to increase the amount of info recodered... in conjunction with Visual Studio's or Bentley's internal debug / profiler tools?
I wonder sometimes what it is like for developers choosing a platform. End users look at the CAD apps features or market share. Do developers look for the most straight forward and robust platform, best support... or who has the best debugging / profiling tools?
