I would like to propose a change the way SelectServer works and to offer the users anoption to allow or not allow over usage. Thus removing the painful excessive over usage charges.
Here is an example of what I mean. A simple tick box to set your preference.
I am constantly hearing frustration from UK, USA, EUROPE and Australia, that our users CANNOT prevent using too many licenses ie AECOsim and MS or PowerDraft installed on the same PC. (NOTE: This has to be the case, as some projects require specific software.
Project A - Projectwise: 3d models open in AECOsim, 2d models in MS, set by the clients client, but the user cannot control this, thus get 2 license usages.
Project B - AECOsim and MS installed on same PC. User accidentally opens both in the same time, thus 2 license usages
Project C - MS and PowerDraft rolled out by IT to ALL pcs via an image. User accidentally opens both in the same time, thus 2 license usages

Same issue with WaterCad. A way to prohibit over usage would be GREAT! In most all cases, the over usage is not critical, necessary or required, and could be avoided with a simple check box as mentioned in the original post or a pop-up window if the number of users has been exceeded. I personally prefer the check box.

Technically it is easy for Bentley to do, productactivation.bentley.com server is the same as SELECTserver with just this flip to allow only checked-out licenses and no invoices for over-usages.

With the introduction of Subscription Entitlement Service, formerly known as CONNECT Licensing, we have introduced an option to display a warning message when users are going over a previously defined threshold.

But it is not users who should have such right to overuse licenses, with all these annoying connection client, connected project, connect advisor and also now this licensing alerts and popups users click randomly all buttons just to get to work session. License usage must be capped and it should be auto enabled for all customers by default so they are aware how much licenses they use and when they need more. ONLY if administrator EXPLICITLY enables for some users to allow additional usage THEN only THEN it would be acceptable. This approach is dead end and sooner or later Bentley will have to introduce option to cap license usage it is inevitable. We are losing many SELECT customers because of this as they can't accept such automatic invoice generation on accidental usage and pricing is not reasonable for such occasional usage. This warning message also is no guarantee that it will show correctly or it will work as expected for example warning can be accidentally bypassed or "Cancel and Quit" button doesn't work correctly(ST7000957341).

Any questions relating to the licensing of Bentley products should be posted to the Licensing and Activation forum rather than the MicroStation Ideas area. I was just outlining tools that have been provided in the Subscription Entitlement Service that cover this subject.
