Insert cells into text elements Merged

I'd like the ability to insert a cell into a line of text while typing or editing.
As an example, we use the Tahoma font for nearly all of our annotation. While it has a great many symbols and language characters, there are some that it is missing, like our (required) centerline, property line and flow line symbols. When we need these in a label, we either have to go back and place the extra "L" on top of our note, or we have to leave the correct amount of space so that we can go back and place a cell alongside the text.

It would be really helpful if we had the ability to place cells directly into the line of text while we are creating it. That way, these labels would be a single element, and they could be placed in literally half the time.
I'm sure there are other applications for this, but at its most basic, it would allow for symbols that do not come from a font to be placed with the text they refer to.

    Hi,

This could either be a cell, or a custom character, but either way it would essentially be a cell. This feature would be helpful.

I think this would be great for creating legends.

A problem with this proposal is that the text becomes jumbled when exported to another app. such as Word. That's because the cell is not a TrueType or OpenType glyph and other apps. can't recognise that.

An alternative to putting a cell into a text string would be a new TrueType font with drafting symbols. That way, the drafting symbol becomes more useful in MicroStation (it's just text) and in other apps. A TrueType font is installed in Windows' font folder and becomes part of the system, so that all apps. can see it.

I've made a counter-proposal: Bentley Systems should commission a font designer to create a TrueType font that includes drafting symbols.

To continue with what Jon said, it would be nice to get a font-editor back in Microstation. Even with the standard symbols, my boss does not like how the "#" prints in the font we use, so we always have to use "No." instead of "#".

With a third-party TrueType font editor, such as Fontographer, we don't need a MicroStation-specific glyph design tool. You can create a TrueType font which can be used in MicroStation, on other Windows apps. such as Word, and on the Macintosh.
