Clash Detection 2.0 - DV / Hypermodeling Combo

Bentley's DV / Hypermodeling tools are pretty powerful in and of themselves. It would be a pity if there wasn't any synergy with the Clash Detection tools or workflow.
Clash detection is one particular aspect of checking and coordinating information. In the early phases of design, the information would be primarily be low-to-medium LOD 3d elements. But as the project progresses, more and more information will be generated in 2d format as well as 3d. I am thinking of all those shop drawing submittals etc.
Mstn is well placed to function as a coordination tool of choice for contractors who have to deal with large datasets in diverse formats. Navis may be OK to review in but you can't really edit in it making it a non-starter as a coordination platform. Although Navis has some powerful tools to deal with 2d info, 2d seems take forever to convert the 2d info It also has problems detecting clashes between 2d shape and 3d elements.
For starters, it would be good to add an additional Clash Detection Display Style option to Mstn's DV cut plane. Instead of displaying everything as a red fill, it could display the clashes in magenta. This would dovetail nicely with the way the user would almost always have to work in section when resolving clashes. I know there are already tools available to isolate and toggle the backgound elements on... but they don't work very well. You almost always need the context visible so that you can snap and offset accurately. Toggling doesn't really help if you have do hundreds little mods.
It would also be good if the Clash Detection engine could also process the 2d elements on the cut plane. We always seem to have tons of 2d information that is embelished in external files that constantly need to be checked and coordinated with the low-to-medium LOD 3d elements.

    Dominic,

Could you clarify what you mean by Navis? Could this possibly Navisworks file?
