Allow Users to use the Models dialog box to Change Which Model is the Default Model

There are times when it would be advantageous to change which model in a file is the default model. Currently one needs to save a file and use the filter settings to export only the model that is the desired default model and then to use the import model tool to re-import the other models to the new file.

    Hello,

This feature is available in MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 16 (10.16.01.56). In the Models dialog right-click on a model and select "Set Default" to make it the default model.

As mentioned, this has been addressed in v14. Go to MODELS, right, click on the model you wish to become default, and select SET DEFAULT.

    Hi Chuck,

in my opinion it's not bad idea ;-) ... a question is whether it can be implemented in some way. As far as I know there is no way how to access these types of settings through API. "To be a default model" is not a model features (there is no such model property) and I assume it's defined somewhere at the design file level.

    With regards,

When quickly attaching a reference file, the Default model is always the first to qualify. If you want any other model to be attached, you have to specifically pick it through the selection box. Defining which model is Default would make some things easier in that respect as well.

Could you give your workflow and what the reason would be for renaming the model. i.e. I know the comment below mentions a reference attachment workflow.

One reason might be to retrofit a file to an earlier workflow or to upgrade to a more current. With design models, drawing models and sheet models, we've come a long way from V7 and even the initial releases of V8. As workflows and standards have evolved one models use or application might evolve as well.

Ok thanks for the workflow explanation. Enhancement 922207 has been filed.

    Hi Reginald,

This has been added in MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 14.

I do not see such option in MicroStation CE U14.2, also was not able to find such information in help. Would you be so kind to provide information how "to be default one" can be assigned to a particular model?

    With regards,

    Jan
